Specialising in Corporate and Human Resource policy development for Housing organisations.

Working with Voluntary Committee and Board Members

My experience in working with a range of tenants’ and residents’ groups whilst working with Glasgow City Council and Glasgow Housing Association equipped me to take on my former role as Corporate Services & HR Manager.

At Govanhill Housing Association I reported to the Association’s Management Committee on governance issue ssuch as responses to consultation from the Regulator and in developing our Complaints Handling Procedure.   I reported to the Finance and General Purposes Sub Committee in relation to all Corporate and HR issues and also reported to the Boards of GREAT Gardens and the Govanhill Community Development Trust regarding staffing matters.

I was responsible for Management Committee training and devised an annual Committee Member Review process which has been in place for the since 2009.  This process informs the Committee Members’ Training Plan.

Training I have delivered personally to the Management Committee has included:

  • Health & Safety briefing(bi-annual)
  • Equal Opportunities (bi-annual)
  • LEAN – improving performance
  • Performance Management Framework
  • Employers Responsibilities
  • Complaints Handling Procedures
  • Induction (one-to-one)
  • I.T - instruction on the use of laptop computers (one-to-one)

Communication and Engagement

I have excellent communication and presentational skills and am able to communicate ideas, issues, systems and procedures successfully at all levels to a variety of audiences.   I have a proven success in engaging with local communities and representatives on major programmes and projects.

  • I had a key role in supporting a number of Housing Association community events such as the annual Fun Days.

  • I led two successful Second Stage Transfer Campaigns devising the ‘Say Yes’ and ‘Keeping it Local’ themes throughout the campaign.

  • I have produced a wide range of presentation material including:

  • All display material, Power-point presentations and presentations of photographic material at the Association’s Strategic Planning events, Community Conferences and Open Days
  • Preparation of the Annual Report
  • Preparation of quarterly newsletters
  • Publicity, newspaper articles and advertisements

  • As Corporate Services & HR Manager it was often my role to present information to staff, for example, I delivered a series of presentations relating to the Scottish Public Services Ombudsman’s Model Complaints Handling Procedure.

  • I was also directly involved in the most significant community engagement project housing in Scotland has seen – the transfer of 80,000 Council homes to Glasgow Housing Association.  Having been seconded to Glasgow Housing Association in November 2000 I took a lead role in developing and implementing the Communication Strategy.  I also delivered many presentations to housing staff, tenants, owner-occupiers, various agencies and organisations and conferences.

  • As a member of Glasgow City Council’s Stock Transfer Team I was responsible for tenant and resident consultation and developed participative approaches to informing local groups of the Council’s early proposals as they emerged through consultation and the Feasibility Study.

  • As Neighbourhood Manager in Castlemilk I took the lead role in engaging with the local community in relation to the South West Strategy which involved the clearance and demolition of over 300 tenanted properties in the Ardencraig area to make way for the city’s first New Housing Partnership development.
